PERSONAL ESSAY ADVITA SINGH 6-B
I
am the type of person who likes to try new things
Everyone has an
opinion of himself or herself, right? Either you think you’re shy, good or bad
at something or you have something else that you like about yourself. I think
that I am the type of person who likes to try new things. I know that I could
say anything and you would have to believe me- I have no proof. But that’s not
the case. I have three true reasons of why I think I’m that type of person:
I see many new things
everyday and want to try them;
I am a very
adventurous and curious person, and
I like to learn from
the experiences that I’ve had.
I
know you’re thinking- “where’s the proof there?” “ How am I supposed to believe
that?” but I actually do have proof. Here are three true stories about my
statement. If you want to believe those or not, is your choice….
“I see many new
things everyday and want to try them”
I was visiting a
close friend in Bombay, a few years ago, while my parents were back home in
Bangalore. This was already a new experience for me, as I had never traveled
without my parents before.
One day, my friend’s
uncle came over for lunch. “ I’m going fishing later” he said “would you girls
like to come?” I immediately got excited and was eager to go, but my friend didn’t
seem as thrilled. “Fishing?” she moaned. “How BORING!” Come one, we should try,
what if it’s fun?” I asked her. “Trust me, it is anything but fun”, she replied
distastefully. “How do you know, have you been fishing before?” I asked her.
“Well, no, but come on! Fishing is like the most boring thing EVER!” she said.
Eventually, I
persuaded her to agree and we got ready to go fishing. As we got into the boat,
my friend started to look more excited.
My
friend’s uncle and his fishing buddy, Rajiv showed us the basics of fishing:
how to make bait, how to use a fishing rod and where to find the fish. The wait
was quite long for the fish to bite, but they eventually felt a tug on the rod
and pulled out a fish called Goby. We put the fish back into the water and
eventually went back home.
This whole fishing
experience made me realize that even the things we think are boring can be fun
if you take it the right way, so you must try different things
“I like to learn
from experiences that I have had”
In the last summer
vacations, I had gone to Patna to meet my grandparents and some family. I love
doing this because I get to spend time with my cousins. One day, we were
planning to go out for a bit of shopping. My grandparents lived in a small
apartment complex that opened into a lane, which led to the main road. Over the
past two days, my cousins and I had spotted a litter of about 8-10 puppies at
least living outside a shop in the lane near the apartment. We would have gone
to meet the pups but we wanted to keep our distance from the mother.
The three of us
being animal lovers would watch the puppies everyday (from a distance). So,
when we were waiting to get into the car on the lane, my cousin brother, Avi
and I decided that we would take a closer look at the puppies.
“This should be
enough”, Avi said when we were at a pretty safe distance.
“No, let’s get
closer, the mom doesn’t seem to be here anyways”, I said, inching forward. This
seemed like a good idea at that time.
“Aaaw…” I said,
pointing at a small brown and white pup. “Its adorable!” I squealed. “Yeah,
they’re so cute!” Avi replied.
Suddenly more
puppies started to come out and bark in their tiny voices.
“Ha-ha,
that’s so cute!” I said.
Suddenly a bigger
white dog jumped out of nowhere and started to bark at us. It was the mother.
We screamed and ran as the mother chased us and I jumped over a bench but poor
Avi got chased by the mother, but saved himself by diverting and dashing into
the car park.
Since then I’ve
always kept my distance from stray puppies in case the mother is lurking around
the corner…
“I am an adventurous
and curious person”
This incident
happened a long time ago, when I was about four years old. This story actually
proves that I’ve always been the curious type. Err.. more curious then than
now, but still….
So, one day, little
four year old me was painting and drawing and having a great time. When I was
painting the beautiful scribbles, I had scattered on the page, I probably
thought, “why does paint only go on paper?” and then I probably thought, “ What
would happen if I paint myself?”. You’ve probably guessed what I did next !
Yup, I painted myself.
All reds, yellows
and blues I was painting with, got all mixed up and created a muddy
blackish-brown colour. I did this when there were no adults with me. Then I
probably got scared that my mom would get mad at me. Then I decided that I
would just go up to my family and see their reaction.
So, covered
head-to-toe in paint, my four-year-old self bravely walked up to the living
room and stood there. My mom was the first to notice me and instead of getting
mad at me, she began to laugh loudly. Everyone turned to look at me and began
to laugh. I was so relieved that they weren’t mad at me, I laughed with them as
well. Then my mom took me and gave me a bath. From this, I realized that my
curiosity and adventure leads me to try new things, puts me in big messes and
sometimes even both.
So that is all the
“proof” I have for you now that tells you how I am a person who likes to try
new things through three pretty embarrassing stories. Being this type of person
helped me discover so many new things about myself and the people around me. It
helps me see things rom a different angle which me wriggle my way out of
situations and most importantly makes me who I am.
