Achieving Goals - Mugdha Kumar

Once you’ve set your heart on something it’s very hard to change your mind. Achieving a goal is not as easy as you think it is. There are many factors that need to be considered based on what you want. I have come across many situations in which I’ve wanted to achieve goals. So, from my experience, I believe a little hard work and determination can go a long way in achieving goals when, you have a test/ exam coming up, you have a tight deadline to meet or even when you want to win a competition.

Firstly, I believe a little hard work and determination can achieve goals when you have a test/exam coming up.
Around 2 months ago my first term exams were going on. This year science and social studies had been divided into several subjects. So now we have around 10 to 11 subjects. There were no days in between the exams to study. On Friday the 9th we had geography which was my toughest subject. To make matters even worse, my friend’s birthday was on October 8th (the day I had to study for the exam).
Even my friend was scared of the geography exam so we managed to study one chapter at school. Right when I went home I started studying because there were six chapters coming for the exam. I didn’t go to play because I had to finish this somehow. Finally I finished and I revised many times. In the morning I woke up earlier than usual to revise one more time. I was ready to go.
Once I reached school I met my friends and we started quizzing each other. I really wanted get 40 or above out of 50. We were so nervous we were basically a ball of nerves.
Then the exam started and we started writing. The exam was really tough. My friends and I looked at each other uneasily.
But the marks came way too soon. The teacher entered the class room and sat down. The atmosphere was filled with nervous minds. Then she started announcing the marks I got…………… 40 out of 50!!!. I know that’s not like great but it was in geography. I had gotten the highest marks in class at least!.
After all, “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, hard work and determination” – Colin Dowell.
Secondly, I believe a little hard work and determination can achieve goals when tight deadline to meet.
When you have a tight deadline ahead, both hard work and determination play equal parts. In other words, you need both.
My friend goes to school that has started giving a lot of homework this year onwards. One day, their geography teacher asked everyone to get a magazine on a topic of their choice. She said it was due in two days.
My friend who had never made a magazine before was doubtful if she could make it. She immediately asked me for help. I showed her how to make one and what type of information she should include.
She immediately got to work. She didn’t to be in the teacher’s bad books for not submitting homework. After one day she was almost done. It wasn’t that easy to complete a whole magazine in two days. She finally completed it.
Finally, she submitted it after giving it the finishing touches. Surprisingly, she was the only one who completed it. The teacher was happy with her. Her happiness knew no boundsJ.

Finally, I believe a little hard work and determination can achieve goals when you want to win a competition.
Another friend of mine, Arya has a great passion for sports. She was really good at them. Especially badminton. She practiced every day in the court in our apartment. One day, there was an interschool badminton competition. She won it and got selected for the state level. She won that too and got selected for the national level! This meant she was now a national level player.
She really wanted to win it so she practiced very hard. She went extra early to the court and came late from the badminton court.
The national level was very tough as there would be good players from all around India. This made her even more determined to win.
Finally, the day of the match arrived. Arya was ready to go. We wished her good luck and off she went.
However, she didn’t win as she lost in the semi-finals. But she was still happy because she got selected for the national level and because she was now a national player.
It was her hard work and determination that brought her to this level. After all “Failure never overtake anyone whose determination to succeed is strong enough” – Og Mandino.

To conclude, I think both hard work and determination are two major factors needed to achieve goals. Whenever I have been determined and hardworking I have always achieved my goal. Like alwaysJ.
