Being Healthy by Hari Prasanna

Being active and healthy is important but not very easy

When was the last time you broke out in sweat? For me it’s been a long time. This is because I’m always at home studying or playing video games. This is what most children and adults do. They play, eat, study and sleep. This daily routine is bad for our health but people find it difficult to take initiative to go outside. The main reason I have started to think like this is because of an article on fats which was made by my friend Paul. It made me realize that I eat too much junk food, I always stay at home and I also learnt many benefits of being active.
I found out that there are many people like me so I have decided to share it to you all.
The biggest reason to why I should active is that I always stay at home all the time. Even when I go to school we are sitting down most of the time. The only time when I’m active is during PE which is hardly 1 hour and 30 minutes in a week. We need to be active at least 1 hour per day. I remember 1 day when I was so lazy that I didn’t even bother to pick up a ringing phone in another room. I also started procrastinating all the time. I have heard that this is how people become fat and it still gives me the shivers behind my spine.
Another reason is I eat a lot of junk food from these tempting fast food stores. There are also many others who eat a lot of junk food. I visit fast-food restaurants once in two weeks bu8t some people visit them every single day! Imagine how many hours you will have to run to bund that much calories! I read this news article last month where a 50 year old man called George drank 10 cokes a day for a month! At the end of the experiment he gained 10.433 kilos and he was low on energy. He also had to go to the toilet often. He ended the experiment by saying a big percentage of the people around the world eat food equivalent to the calories of 10 cokes and that this is very dangerous. Thousands of people has read this article and the video and have been shocked at the results. After watching this video I stopped drinking coke for 2 months. So think again before you eat too much junk food. You don’t want to look like him.
Now there is only 1 important thing left for you to become a healthy person. It is to be active.
There are many ways and advantages of being active. The easiest way is walking every day. To start off walking is an excellent way to be active. You can eventually start walking faster,then jogging and then running. One good way is to time your speed and try to beat bit every time. Another fun and useful way is swimming. If you even swim for a week it's good enough. Being active is beneficial because it can get rid of headache, back pain and other problems. It also helps reduce stress which is common around the world. Yoga and exercising will be very helpful for this. Even heart diseases can be prevented by being active. Children should reduce their time playing on iPad and computers as this is the main reason for child obesity, instead they should play soccer, cricket and other sports and outdoor games. John F Kennedy an American president said “Physical fitness is one of the most important key to a healthy body”. So try your best to be physically active.

I now realize that being active is important but raising awareness is even more important just like George who did the coke experiment. He was very successful in this. So try your best to encourage others so that we can all live a healthy, happy and a prosperous life.

Disclaimer: This personal essay is talking about the flaws in the human race. If this hurts anyone living or dead then I apologize, and any criticism towards a certain individual is unintentional.
            How do you feel when everyone is happy and the day is peaceful and quiet. This is called a “nice day” right? But actually, it is a devil, a devil in disguise. How, you ask? Well, because every day, many plants and animals are getting killed, many harmful chemicals are released into the atmosphere, etc. And humans are mostly responsible for this. Humans have spoilt the world.
            Now you might be wondering, how is this personal? Well, I am a human, and as I write this I notice my flaws, and I think it is important for me too. Also I fear for the planet and the future of the planet, and I feel the need to talk about it. Now, let’s begin.
            Now, the first reason how humans spoilt the world is by spoiling the ecosystem. The constant killing of animals has resulted in the destruction of the ecosystem. In fact, even the animals which are not getting killed are dying because of the food chain. WHY! It is bad to kill animals and plants. Even they have a life. Killing plants and animals are as bad as killing humans. Also, plants and animals or all living things have a certain role to play in the balancing of the ecosystem. Actually, people who eat meat are not doing anything bad to the ecosystem, as eating meat is part of the food chain.
            The second reason how humans spoilt the world is by having a bad lifestyle.  WHAT A DISASTER! Difference in religion has caused disputes, wars, etc. WHY! WHY CAN’T THERE BE RESPECT TOWARDS OTHER RELIGION! No offense to anyone, but religion can SOMETIMES corrupt someone’s mind. And wars. OH MY GOSH! WHY SUCH STUPID THINGS! SO MANY PEOPLE DIE DURING WARS! And all for just stupid reasons. WOW! One more thing which corrupted this world is money. In fact, this thing is so bad that because of this people are living a stressful life. WHY! What is the need to put people under so much stress! In fact, people who are rich can get greedy and corrupt with so much money. WOW! GREAT IDEA! Hey have you heard of global warming? Well, I will talk about it next.

            Thirdly, humans have spoilt the world by doing a lot of pollution. This leads to global warming. If you know how global warming happens then you can skip a few lines. Otherwise, read on. Firstly, harmful chemicals get released in the atmosphere, making a hole in the ozone layer. Now the sun rays which couldn’t enter the Earth because of the ozone layer can now enter which causes a rise in temperature. This is global warming. Pollution can also cause diseases like cancer.

            Humans are spoiling this world. We have done so much wrong. Although the situation may sound horrible, there is still a light of hope. If we can reduce pollution, destroy the ecosystem less, and try and reduce pollution, maybe our world can be saved…

           





Heights by Aashna Parekh

Heights
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be fearless? Fearlessness is an image that doesn’t process in your head. Becoming fearless isn’t the point, that’s impossible. It’s about learning how to control your fears and how to be free from it.
My biggest fear is my fear of heights. Height is something I’ve been scared of all my life. I feel like it’s something that I can’t overcome. I’ve sacrificed many things in life because of that one fear.

When doing something that involves overcoming your fear, you have to go through it not around it. I don’t know what it is about heights that scare me. Is it about me falling? What if I make it without falling? There will be that pride that satisfaction that I just killed my fear but the next thing I know, it’s alive again and it’s haunting me all over again.

   You know when you shake a can of coke and then you open it and it explodes everywhere?Well that’s how I feel when facing my fear of heights. Heights cause me dizziness and discomfort.
The fear of heights is called Acrophobia. It causes something known as Vertigo which is the sensation of spinning. Acrophobia can range from fear when one the top floor of a tall building or even standing on a chair. People with acrophobia feel a sense of panic when they’re at a certain height and often become unable to trust their sense of balance.
Sometimes you need to face your fears to realize that they aren’t actually real.

Another reason why I don’t like heights is because it’s made me sacrifice a few things like trips, Bungee jumping, roller coasters and many more activities that involve heights.
 If your fear is making you feel tense in your head, sick in your stomach and tight in your chest, you have to picture it as an actual shape and give it a color. Tell yourself it’s okay to feel anxious and just allow it to be and it will start to fade away.
The fears we don’t face become our limits.

Heights also make me feel insecure about myself. It makes me feel below everyone who isn’t afraid of heights. Fear is nothing more than an obstacle that stands in the way of progress. In overcoming our fears we can move forward stronger and wiser within ourselves feeling like there’s nothing you can’t do, feeling like no one can stop you.
As I say this I’m realizing maybe the existence of our fears makes us all better, stronger people in a way. Fear doesn’t shut you down is wakes you up. In conclusion I realized that, Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts you create. Although danger is real, fear is a choice.

Being Positive by Neha Ganjur

BEING POSITIVE

Why be a positive person you may ask…It's not only the best feeling , but also many other things I will take you through in this essay. Being positive means being happy, even if you’re happy crying. In this essay you will get to know ‘how to be happy’ and what are the good things it can do.

I shall start with the most important reason/way-finding the better side of things, be it  a human  or even a nonliving thing.
During school (in 4th grade)I cried because I felt like school was just a colorful jail, this is what I used to think about school…when I should have looked at the better side of it giving me education. But then again if I got  ‘too obsessed’  I would’ve gotten way too attached.

Secondly being positive and happy makes finding friends a lot easier. Being happy/positive means being neutral according to me of course. Positivity is contagious. ~IT SPREADS LIKE WILDFIRE~

I   was always told to treat other how I wanted to be treated. And I all I wanted was to be treated in a very welcoming manner. So that’s what inspired me to become nicer and more positive (at least I tried to be as positive as I could!).This is how its makes  finding friends easier.

Last but  not the least is –the way being positive helps become a person with a stress free kind of life! here’s how-the more positive you think the less stressful things you think about.

Some people perform yoga for the positivity it offers. This make their lives calm and less stressful.
You may think that I’m lying but like any other personal essay I have my evidence. It is scientifically proven that optimism can improve the immune system, prevent chronic bronchitis and help cope with the unfortunate news one may receive .

When it offers  all this ,why not try it?

Being positive affects you both mentally and physically! Many people have died because they were not surrounded by positive people.

I LOVE FOOTBALL

     I LOVE FOOTBALL BECAUSE…
You don’t need to read this ‘personal’ essay. It’s just an essay you can move on to the next ones or my partner Agastya’s writing. But read it if you want to know about the relationship between football and me. Or if you want to hear an inspirational essay. Or you want to understand the feeling of loving football. I bet some of you don’t like or follow football but I am a hard-core football fan and I doubt it. Ok, so if you are I believe you have planned to read it. Have you ever wanted to know why am I influenced by football in a positive way? I believe it’s my pink brain that is controlling it or it’s my heart that wants me to be influenced to it. Again it is counted in a positive way. Now this should be kept private between us, this might sound funny but I have made lines written for this essay. “ Football is the game that keeps me alive. Football lives deep within my soul. Football is one of my lifelines. Football is my second true love. I guess the last one is too much.” told by Aryan Kamdar. This game is something that guides me to success. The reasons I love football are: It helps me build my confidence, teamwork is included and it releases stress. It even helps me focus and remove my aggression.

Football helps me to be stress free and helps me focus. Well you won’t believe it but it works. It helps me focus. I will give you a hint, you need to try and figure it out. Football lives deep within me. Now take a minute and think about it. Once you are done, go to the comments page in the end and write what you think. Ok, now comes the answer, all I am trying to convey is that there is one thing you are very passionate about and that’s what you take interest in doing. For example: I am passionate about football, Darsh is about studies, Kavin about assassination and Ishanvi about modeling. So you are ready to get up early and practice these things before school starts. If it's something you don’t like then you don’t actually do it properly. This even helps in focusing on other things. For example I was nervous about my exams and I played football, it released my stress. But there is a risk too; you have no clue what’s going to happen. Maybe a fail in the exam or you get less then you can even get. If I were you I would have taken that risk cause at least it doesn’t put any pressure on you.

Football is  fun because it is where you have a team who helps you become an awesome player. It’s not like swimming or tennis where you have to be quite and play it. When I play football I get a sense of joy and happiness in my body. Football is a huge type of support to me when it comes to times of owning someone. I used to be ok when I joined Inventure but now I am one of the best in 7th grade and in my age group in Bangalore. When we go for tournaments there’s a lot of pressure, especially against Greenwood High. They are our rivals. This is like Barcelona vs Real Madrid or Manchester United vs Manchester City. I don’t know how but Inventure is not allowed to go for Greenwood’s tournaments and they are not allowed to come for ours. It’s like a challenge because they have got a good team. They got a formation of Suman, Shubham and Siddharth (SSS). We got a formation (MSK) or of Malvi, Shaunak, Kamdar (me).

Finally we came to the third and final reason to my life. Everyone thinks I am good at it (Football). I am guessing that you wont believe me but I have got proof as my back up. This might be fun because I have a lot of instances to tell you about. Once when Rohan and I were training he told me that we both were the best in football. Ok, now this one is going to be long because it’s an instance from the outbound trip. So Shaunak and Advit were fighting and I interfered because shaunak does boast that is the best in football. He pulled me aside and told me that we both are the best in the grade so there is something we can boast about and that we shouldn’t fight. Darsh told me that I was amazing in football and that I don’t need others to tell me that I am a bad footballer. The last example is of Ishanvi, who thinks I am the best in the grade because I have got swag while I play. She even told me that I was the best and should never give up in football even if you mess up once or twice. Now that’s something that gives me a boost of confidence. My confidence level rises when I play near these people.

I realize that when I feel distressed or lonely, football is my only medicine. It’s the only thing in the world that can cure me. Some people play it just like it’s a job and they are forced to play it. I am different though; I play with interest where I risk everything. I hope you enjoyed my life story. Its how I want to live my life. “I was born on the field, I am living on the field and I will die on the field.”I know it’s copied from the legend Ronaldinho but it’s my favorite dialogue.
