I an Not all Academics by Anshul Balaji

Personal Essay
Many people don’t know that I’m not all academics; instead I have a burning passion for the sport cricket. Not only do I like playing it, but I am also good at it as I play Under-12 and Under-14 for the school team. So, as you can see, I am the kind of person who likes playing cricket because, it is interesting, enjoyable and because it takes my mind off things. Here are some real life incidents that helped me realize this.
One of the reasons’s I like playing cricket is because it is interesting. I found this out in an Under-12 school cricket match against DPS. In the game, we restricted DPS to a mere 153 and were all confident to win the game. On the first ball, Hasi hit a four and we thought that it was a sign of things to come. Instead on the fifth ball, Hasi’s middle stump was uprooted. In the next over, both Abhilash and Anurup got out. There was some tension in the dugout. Shashank and I restored ten runs to the team before I perished. All of a sudden, the game had turned on its head. We all watched nervously from the dugout. This is exactly why I like cricket; this is exactly how interesting it can get.
Secondly, I like playing cricket because it takes my mind off things. I know this because of another incident that took place about 2 months ago. I used to go to a drama class and at the end of the course we had an exam from the TRINITY COLLEAGE in London. This was a very crucial exam because if you fail it, you cannot continue the course. I was really nervous and I could not sit in one place for more than 5 minutes together. My mom then told me “Go and play some cricket.” So I did as I was told and went and batted for a bit. Every time I played a good shot, my mind would relax a bit. This is how I realized that it takes my mind of things. I was so focused on the ball that I did not even care about the exam.
Lastly, I love cricket because I enjoy playing it. I realized this in an incident that took place only a few weeks ago. I had just been picked for a match against FCA who elected to bat first. After 15 over’s, Ranjan Sir asked me to bowl. I didn’t get any wickets in the first over. In my second over, I bowled two full-tosses which were both caught. On the hat trick ball I bowled a beautiful delivery that got the batsman bowled. Hat trick Hero!!! I was enjoying myself thoroughly. Yash took a fantastic catch the next ball.  Four in four…!!!! I was ripping their middle order apart. On the next ball I bowled a doosra which knocked over his middle stump. I had got five in five. This is how much I enjoy playing cricket.
This made me realize how much I love playing cricket. I also believe that the stories I wrote are good enough to prove that I am the kind of person that likes playing cricket because it is interesting, enjoyable and it takes my mind off things. A bigger realization I made in this is that I am not all academics and how I have a passion for cricket.

I am the type of person who likes to try new things by Advita Singh

PERSONAL ESSAY          ADVITA SINGH 6-B

I am the type of person who likes to try new things

Everyone has an opinion of himself or herself, right? Either you think you’re shy, good or bad at something or you have something else that you like about yourself. I think that I am the type of person who likes to try new things. I know that I could say anything and you would have to believe me- I have no proof. But that’s not the case. I have three true reasons of why I think I’m that type of person:

I see many new things everyday and want to try them;
I am a very adventurous and curious person, and
I like to learn from the experiences that I’ve had.

I know you’re thinking- “where’s the proof there?” “ How am I supposed to believe that?” but I actually do have proof. Here are three true stories about my statement. If you want to believe those or not, is your choice….

“I see many new things everyday and want to try them”

I was visiting a close friend in Bombay, a few years ago, while my parents were back home in Bangalore. This was already a new experience for me, as I had never traveled without my parents before.

One day, my friend’s uncle came over for lunch. “ I’m going fishing later” he said “would you girls like to come?” I immediately got excited and was eager to go, but my friend didn’t seem as thrilled. “Fishing?” she moaned. “How BORING!” Come one, we should try, what if it’s fun?” I asked her. “Trust me, it is anything but fun”, she replied distastefully. “How do you know, have you been fishing before?” I asked her. “Well, no, but come on! Fishing is like the most boring thing EVER!” she said.

Eventually, I persuaded her to agree and we got ready to go fishing. As we got into the boat, my friend started to look more excited.
My friend’s uncle and his fishing buddy, Rajiv showed us the basics of fishing: how to make bait, how to use a fishing rod and where to find the fish. The wait was quite long for the fish to bite, but they eventually felt a tug on the rod and pulled out a fish called Goby. We put the fish back into the water and eventually went back home.

This whole fishing experience made me realize that even the things we think are boring can be fun if you take it the right way, so you must try different things

“I like to learn from experiences that I have had”

In the last summer vacations, I had gone to Patna to meet my grandparents and some family. I love doing this because I get to spend time with my cousins. One day, we were planning to go out for a bit of shopping. My grandparents lived in a small apartment complex that opened into a lane, which led to the main road. Over the past two days, my cousins and I had spotted a litter of about 8-10 puppies at least living outside a shop in the lane near the apartment. We would have gone to meet the pups but we wanted to keep our distance from the mother.

The three of us being animal lovers would watch the puppies everyday (from a distance). So, when we were waiting to get into the car on the lane, my cousin brother, Avi and I decided that we would take a closer look at the puppies.

“This should be enough”, Avi said when we were at a pretty safe distance.

“No, let’s get closer, the mom doesn’t seem to be here anyways”, I said, inching forward. This seemed like a good idea at that time.

“Aaaw…” I said, pointing at a small brown and white pup. “Its adorable!” I squealed. “Yeah, they’re so cute!” Avi replied.
Suddenly more puppies started to come out and bark in their tiny voices.

“Ha-ha, that’s so cute!” I said.

Suddenly a bigger white dog jumped out of nowhere and started to bark at us. It was the mother. We screamed and ran as the mother chased us and I jumped over a bench but poor Avi got chased by the mother, but saved himself by diverting and dashing into the car park.

Since then I’ve always kept my distance from stray puppies in case the mother is lurking around the corner…

“I am an adventurous and curious person”

This incident happened a long time ago, when I was about four years old. This story actually proves that I’ve always been the curious type. Err.. more curious then than now, but still….

So, one day, little four year old me was painting and drawing and having a great time. When I was painting the beautiful scribbles, I had scattered on the page, I probably thought, “why does paint only go on paper?” and then I probably thought, “ What would happen if I paint myself?”. You’ve probably guessed what I did next ! Yup, I painted myself.

All reds, yellows and blues I was painting with, got all mixed up and created a muddy blackish-brown colour. I did this when there were no adults with me. Then I probably got scared that my mom would get mad at me. Then I decided that I would just go up to my family and see their reaction.

So, covered head-to-toe in paint, my four-year-old self bravely walked up to the living room and stood there. My mom was the first to notice me and instead of getting mad at me, she began to laugh loudly. Everyone turned to look at me and began to laugh. I was so relieved that they weren’t mad at me, I laughed with them as well. Then my mom took me and gave me a bath. From this, I realized that my curiosity and adventure leads me to try new things, puts me in big messes and sometimes even both.

So that is all the “proof” I have for you now that tells you how I am a person who likes to try new things through three pretty embarrassing stories. Being this type of person helped me discover so many new things about myself and the people around me. It helps me see things rom a different angle which me wriggle my way out of situations and most importantly makes me who I am.

Hope you enjoyed !! J

I am Organized by Aarushi Chaudhary

Many people don’t realize that organization is a great thing because it helps you keep things under control; it saves time and prevents you from forgetting things. I have found out that organization also leads to progress and success, and I think I am the kind of person who likes to be organized.

To start with, organization helps me keep up with everything, here’s one story from my life.
Dribble dribble drop, splashed the rain on my umbrella as I walked home form my bus stop. It had been raining since morning and the weather made the mood dull. On reaching home, I felt like playing outside but due to the rain I was unable to do so, hence I did my homework. After completing my work I remembered that we had just learned algebra in school and I was confused so I took out my books and pen and began practicing. This is one example in my life when I do my stuff in an organized manner so it helps me keep up with every thing.

In addition to that organization also helps me save time, up next is another story about how it helps me save time.
During the first week of summer vacation just before entering middle school, my mother bought me a few books to study a little for sixth grade and be a bit prepared. By later that evening I had misplaced almost half my books so I searched everywhere and after a long search I found them. So I cleared up an area, and allotted it for summer studies and kept all my books there. Now I don’t waste time searching for my books instead of studding but instead I finish my work fast and then go play. This way I save time.

At last organization prevents me from forgetting tings to be done, I shall prove this point in my next story.
“Aarushi remember to bring home your physics or chemistry books home to study,” said my mom” okay fi ne “ I replied, and left for school. The whole day went by while ridding the bus home I remembered that I had to bring home books to study but I forgot to. But my mom came up with a solution so I got a notebook and we sat and planed about which subject I was going to study, each day. This prevents me from forgetting my books. Now I never leave my book at school.

To conclude, organization helps me keep a head over everything, it saves time and stops me form forgetting any things.

I Like To plan Every Thing by Vanshika Somani

MY PERSONAL ESSAY

I always like to plan everything before hand so that nothing is left for the last second so as you might have guessed I’m the kind of person that likes to plan everything there are many such times when I like to plan here are three times .

1.   WHEN I GO SOMEWHERE
I always like to plan everything when I go somewhere as whenever we go out I always have everything ready. One such instance was when I was going with my family to singapore.

Everyone in my family was packing except for me. I already  knew that at the last minute everyone would hurry packing and forget something useful. While everyone was running around the house finding stuff I was checkin my suitcase for the last time. I learnt a new thing to always plan and pack before hand. Now lets move on to the next story.

2.   WHEN I HAVE A LOT OF WORK
Sometimes I have a lot of work and I’m to lazy to do it. One time was when I got some homework and I thought”I’ll do it tomorrow.” When the next day came I thought”I’ll do it tomorrow” and I kept postponing the date till it was one night before the due date so  I took a descision there and then that I would not delay my homework till the last date so I started to do my homework the day it was given to me.
3.   WHEN I’M PLANNING FOR A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY GIFT.
I always like to plan before for a surprise birthday gift.It was a few days before my mom’s birthday and me and my sister harshita had absolutely no clue what to give to my mom and were sitting on the sofa and thinking what to give to her when suddenly it hit me. We could decorate my mom’s mirror for her birthday!!!

My sister liked the idea so we started to work on the things we were going to stick on her mirror since my mom was out and we wanted to give her a surprise.we spent a lot of time deciding what to draw I had never thought it would be so hard thinking about what to draw for my mom finally about 2 or 3 days later we had all our decorations and things ready safely hidden in my cupboard so my mom couldn’t suspect anything finally that day came one night before my mom’s birthday the night when we were going to stick our stuff on the mirror but the only problem was when do we stick it on the mirror??

My mom gave the answer to that question she said she was going to a party with my dad so only my and harshi would be home alone “yes!!” me and harshi told each other when my mom was not looking. When my mom and my dad both left I stuck all the things on the mirror as harshi had gone to sleep. The next day when my mom woke up she had a gigantic surprise waiting for her!!! When I asked her “did you like it?” she said she LOVED it!! Me and me sister were really happy that day!!

The three stories you just read just prove the point that I’m the kind of person that likes to plan everything!! I really hoped you like reading my personal essay!

I admire Small Things by Shobhik Chatterjee

MY PEERSONAL ESSAY
BY SHOUBHIK CHATTERJEE

I have found out a very interesting thing about myself and that is that I am the kind of person who admires small things, which are helpful because small things matter more than big things
And because you care and you do it for someone else – HERE WE GO!
My goal in my apartment has no nets and I have to fetch the ball after every shot.Me and my friend were just about to have a session and I realized that some kid was watchingus. Our session was going decent until I hit a really good shot and the kid started fetching the ball for us (probably open mouthed) and he helped me and my friend by fetching the ball (I bet you are like “Is this what the story about?) but seriously it isn’t easy .So me and my friend let the kid take some shots but what I realized was that I actually have a heart and that my friend was so caring  because I didn’t lead by example , so that is why I admired him .So remember small things matter more than big things .
An example of “because you do it for someone else” is-
I don’t have a great relationship with my grandmom(shoot me) and I don’t know why . Everyone says they love my grandparents but for some reason I don’t (I know harsh) but I try to help her whenever I can and a few days ago my parents went out and my grandmom wanted tea and so I made it and it tasted horrible but then I thought “All this work for nothing “ so I gave it in. She said it was good (cough lying cough) but what I noticed is that I not only admire small things but I can also do small things which are helpful.
I think I got “because you care about someone else” from this-
It was my dads 50th birthday and I didn’t know until 9:30 at night (oops) I was in the middle of a football match with friends until I heard the date. I thought – “Well that was unnecessary. Wait isn’t it my dads birthday? But he never celebrates. So what? Its his 50th birthday its special .So I stopped playing and ran to the store to get a chocolate. He was like “meh” but that’s okay but what I realized is that I care about people and that I admired myself because most people in my shoes wouldn’t have gone through so much pain
What I am saying that I think that people should be admired more and also that small things matter more than big things because you do it for someone else and you care. So don’t blame me if I go on about it and remember“ make a difference a small one atleast“ (how cliché).
Thank you for reading my story

I like Going Un noticed by Shaunak Sharma

I like to go unnoticed from time to time. I mean that I like to stay in the background. This can be because I need to sneak away stealthily, because that way it is easier to surprise people (one of my favorite things
to do by the way) or simply because I don't feel like interacting so much.

Like I said, I like to go unnoticed when I need to sneak away stealthily. On some days my friends play cops and robbers till 7:30 because they don't have any homework. We also have a rule that if you start one game then you can't leave until all the games finish. On one day I had forgotten this rule and started playing the first game. Then in the last game I remembered the rule, while I was hiding as a robber I told my hiding partner, Pratyush that I had found an epic hiding spot and started sneaking away. By the time I got there, I had already gotten caught and had to wait in the jail. So I waited till the end of the game, and while everyone was talking till the next game started I snuck away silently without anyone seeing me and started doing my homework at home. I now realize that if I stay in the background no one knows whether I am there or not and that way I can sneak away and do anything I want.

Sometimes when I stay in the background it becomes much easier to surprise people (which is one of my favorite things to do). One time we had 2 free periods at the end of the day. Almost everyone was talking in groups. I, on the other hand, was planning to scare my friend, Shoubhik, with a simple Boo. Then as no one knew where I was I silently crept over to where Shoubhik was sitting (he still didn't notice me), and was very startled when I shouted Boo next to his face. Now I realize that not being noticed can help you startle your friends who are not expecting to be scared.

Sometimes I don't feel like interacting so much because I feel sick. At these times, staying in the background is a great way to stop yourself from throwing up. One time at the INME trip, in the bus to the train station, I felt motion sick. All the other kids were playing cards. I knew that if I let them know I was there I would be dragged into a conversation and I know that talking while feeling like throwing up is not a good idea. Believe me, I am an expert on this subject. So, I sat down quietly letting no one know that I was there.

I hope you enjoyed reading these few paragraphs and hope you understand how going unnoticed can help you. I am now realizing that going unnoticed has many drawbacks but it is a great way to sneak out of any problem.

I Am Responsible by Sahana Vijay

My Personal Essay- Sahana Vijay-6A

I am the kind of person who likes to be responsible, which leads to organization.
Sometimes people ask why I bother doing work on time, being responsible, doing work neatly and being organized.
I just say “I am the kind of person who likes to be responsible, which leads to organization”. Have you ever wondered that responsibility and organization is important?

I’m responsible because, as I go in higher classes , I’ll get more work and for that I’ll have to be responsible.
Let’s start with this one…………

I am in sixth grade! I get homework everyday! If I get homework on a certain day and don’t finish it, by the next day I’ll have a burden of work for two days. This happened once!
I had pushed the whole week’s work to friday thinking I’ll finish everything . I didn’t have enough time to finish everything. What have I done? I felt so horrible , I wanted to bang my head on the wall. Somehow, I’d managed to finish all my work with a late submission. My history project came soon enough.
This time I finished it before hand and was free!
This whole experience made me realise that responsibility leads to organization and that I should work harder as I get into higher classes!
The next reason why I’m responsible is because when I do work before hand , a huge burden gets lifted of my back.
This time I have……………….

In fifth grade  the teachers, on a certain friday were bombarding us with homework including at least two projects, five worksheets and a lot of textbook work. Everything was due on monday!
What I’d done is had a day of panicking, when I realised it wouldn’t solve my problems. I was so stressed out that I was planning to burn my work. That saturday I was planning to finish my burdens of work. I’d finished all my work in two hours because I’d focused, why was I worrying so much?
A huge burden got lifted off my back! Now I realise that  I should always do my work before hand then a huge burden of work will get lifted of my back! and………….
The last reason why I’m responsible is because when I’m responsible,I feel like I’m prepared for future. Responsibility also leads to organization which is a good quality.
My last story is…………………………………….

Making a schedule or a timetable for your days makes every day of your life organized so you’ll be
